Perfect warm vanilla.
by jennifer on Mar 29, 2017
I love Christian Dior and the Poison series. I rated this average because although it is a romantic perfume I would not call it hypnotic. I think it should be a bit more exotic
by KE on Feb 14, 2017
I've tried to love this, as many of the notes are ones that I tend to like. Unfortunately, I cannot get past a vanilla soda pop smell with this. It is simply all I can really get, particularly as it begins to dry down. Good sillage and longevity, so if you want to smell like soda pop, check this out!

One lovely combo of long-lasting beautiful "ingredients". Very classy. A true keeper!
I hunted this smell down <3
by Jaclyn on Nov 29, 2016
I walked into chemist warehouse one day for a cream and I smelled this incredible smell, it was hypnotic (couldn't explain it any better than that). The lady at the register showed me what it was, well out of my budget I had to have it anyway. However, as much as I loved it, I was told by a few people that it had a more middle age feel to it and wasn't right on me :( so I gave it up for adoption to my mother, I miss it and am going to buy a small sample for my own pleasure :).
Weird and Lovely
by Ashley on Jul 18, 2016
This smelled so much like chocolate, but not in a sweet way. It's kind of hard to explain. It's an awesomely unique perfume. Not something I thought I would actually wear until I tried it.
by Tatyana on Jun 8, 2016
Many people wrote that they smell root beer or playdoh here. It's true! The scent of playdoh is sweet and makes me smile but I don't want to project it as my perfume.
by Cindy on May 22, 2016
This perfume smells very dry to my nose. Dry as in woody. It also smells a bit like root beer. If I close my eyes and try really hard, I can smell the play doh, but it's not what comes to mind immediately upon first spray. The drydown is a nice vanilla. This scent is long lasting, but I think it's a bit overhyped. I don't think it's the sexy beast everyone makes it out to be
The best Poison
by Alicia on Apr 12, 2016
Of the original Poison many flankers, Hypnotic is the best one. I am not sure that it is really a flanker, since it has not much relation to Poison and its powerful tuberose. Hypnotic Poison instead offers a creamy jasmine in a voluptuous oriental form. It projects a comforting aura, with the sweetness of vanilla unfolding against the radiant freshness of musk and the milky bitterness of almonds. Wonderful.
Strong and sexy
by Janita on Feb 21, 2016
It's a very strong scent. I didin't like when I first used it but I do love it when I apply just a little bit. I smell a lot of warm vanilla and almond. If you don't like vanilla and strong scents maybe this is not your perfume.
by Anyushka on Jan 13, 2016
HP is a very sweet vanilla/coconut gourmand scent that will only appeal to vanilla and coconut lovers, everybody else will probably run for a mile. This stuff is so good I didn't only want to bury my nose but my whole head in it when I sniffed it the first time. Delicious, yummy, in your face, yet soft as well and totally addictive with a foody element to it that manages to just stop short of being too much (if used light handedly). HP has great sillage and excellent longevity when sprayed on clothes and tends to stay more linear in the vanilla/coconut stage (which I love).
Warm and Inviting
by rhapsodii on Jan 11, 2016
Perhaps it's all the vanilla, coconut, and other sweet notes reminiscent of baked goods in a warm kitchen, but there is something that definitely draws me to this scent. I could snuggle up to it like a warm fire. It's not the best thing I've ever smelled, but it's oddly comforting.
mm..Peppery smell for me
by Oona on Sep 26, 2015
good name, but it does smell strong like hot pepper to me, and fades in nicely, with a warm sweet smell..not so bad at all
Yummy, Warm Fragrance
by Laura on Jun 22, 2015
I'm not usually a vanilla-fragrance kinda gal, but this is quite nice mixed with the almond. Those are the main notes that I get from this fragrance. It's a lovely, sweet fragrance that was a happy surprise. I'll definitely be wearing this again. I think this would be warm and comforting on a cold fall or winter's day.
Weird cookie play-doh
by Colin on Jun 3, 2015
Not a fan of Hypnotic Poison. It seems to smell differently on everyone so maybe it just didn't work on the person I smelled wearing it. I just got a vanilla cookie play-doh kind of vibe from this.
Definitely on e to try before you buy.
Strong long lasting vanilla oriental
by Krisrj on Apr 24, 2015
Even though this is only an Eau de Toilette, I found that two sprays will last about 10 hours, making this a great value. The warm vanilla almond scent is pleasant and not too romantic so it is fine for office wear. If you like gourmand fragrances that are based on vanilla and musk, then this is a good fragrance for you.
by Germara on Mar 27, 2015
I have been wearing the fragrance for years, it's one of those scents that never gets old. I would recommend it and then again I wouldn't because don't want the whole world smelling like me lol. This is always my first choice.
Sexy, dark and heavy.
by Sharon on Mar 20, 2015
My first impression of this went something like, 'Ah, a nice & bold vanilla scent, but is it really hypnot- ohhh. There it is!' Something in this concoction tickles the very back of your nose and gives you a lightheaded sensation, similar to that satisfaction you feel after a good sneeze. It's got a boozy quality, as well (I was certain it had to be bourbon vanilla before I read the notes more closely). To me, this smells almost exactly like Yves Rocher's Vanille Noire (which somehow, I discovered first). Lastly, this juice packs a serious punch - it lasts all day. Absolutely deserving of its name.
Just like Cyanide
by Lora on Mar 3, 2015
On me it smells like rich almonds and vanilla. MOSTLY almonds. Just like cyanide. Perfect for a perfume named "Hypnotic poison"
I do not get a play-doh smell when I wear this, but it seems common for others.
by Nazia on Feb 23, 2015
It is a little play-doughy, but I love it. Smells like sugared almonds, with some sweet, intoxicating but light, white florals. All of the poisons are so unique :)
by deangela on Jan 29, 2015
Longevity is okay. Projection is very soft. I just did not like it. It smelt like play dough with a hint of cookies and root beer. In my opinion that doesn't sound sexy at all. Well guess what, it isn't! I am soooo happy I bought a sample vs doing a blind buy. Just gross. I am not sure how this is getting all of these high ratings!
by cheryl on Jan 1, 2015
This was my second favorite Dior scent next to poison. Hypnotic poison has always smelled like cookies to me it smells so sweet I could eat it. I think that's why most men are attracted to this scent!! This would be my playfulness scent, but the original poison is always my go to romantic, sexy, scent.
man's achilles heel....
by Stephanie on Nov 13, 2014
My husband chose this for me almost 20 years ago when we were dating, out of a whole perfume counter of choices. It's not something I would choose - it's much sweeter than anything I have ever gravitated toward, however, it isn't sickening or unpleasant to wear. I have heard recently that men are most attracted to vanilla scents on women, which explains why my husband loves this so much. I only wear it for him on romantic evenings - this is not an everyday scent for sure, unless your aim is to attract someone of the male persuasion. A little goes a (really) long way, and it is very long lasting - I can still smell it the next morning. :)
by Bridgette on Jun 13, 2014
I like the way this smells at first better than poison, but then once it dries, I like poison a tad better. However, this is really nice as well. Interesting scent, pretty. Is lighter than Poison. Fades quicker.
too much vanilla
by christy on May 14, 2014
Smells to much vanilla
by lls on Mar 24, 2014
Smells exactly like root beer on me. Not unpleasant, but I wouldn't want a whole bottle.
by Heather on Mar 3, 2014
This perfume is addictive & incredible! I absolutely love it! I can just imagine the aroma right now ... UMmmm!
It's like Dior Poison and Chanel Allure Pour Homme co-mingled and created a child, Hypnotic Poison!
Also, I believe a man could easily wear this as well, if he is so inclined to smell awesome! TRY IT!!!
This is the one that started it all
by Anita on Feb 2, 2014
This was my first true love. I wore it exclusively for years before moving on to other fragrances. I recently returned to it with a sample size and fell in love all over again. An oriental vanilla fragrance this is truly hypnotic, especially during the winter.
Mysterious and alluring
by Dianne on May 15, 2013
I wore this wonderful scent several years ago, and ordered a sample from this website to see if I still like it...Now I wonder why I ever stopped wearing it! There's always been an 'undernote' that smells soo familiar but I could never define exactly what it was ...
that's the mysterious part. I think this is a very sexy, heady scent, the blend of bitter almonds, jasmine, vanilla and amber is perfect. Love it!
