  1. Drakkar Essence

by Adonis on Aug 31, 2016

My first impression was that this comes off as some old grandpa musk. It has that deep musky undertone, with the highline top note that tears you between the two mediums.

The intensity of the notes is very prime, and it's probably going to tackle you to the ground and pin you there if you're spraying it on just to sit around. It's really potent—and you should probably be up-out & about, and moving swiftly to disperse the scent properly.

With that said, I would say that this probably does best a sport scent, which was probably why they originally marketed it with a football player. Although with France, I can't image they meant football, so much as they meant something like bicycling (as prominent as that is in France—with the Tour de France and all).

For this reason, I'd expect that to be the sport Drakkar Essence was intended to cater to (one where you're out in the open—and the open air gives the scent lots of room to do its thing).

Due to the Spearmint note (which is very prominent), I'd best compare this to Polo Sport. That's another one that does well as a sport scent for bicycling, but really only on a crisp or humid morning. I don't think Polo Sport does too well in the heat, it gets entirely reduced to an unenjoyable lukewarm essence under the heat, where the crisp and cool effects are entirely suppressed.

Given the similarity, I'd expect to this to be the same, so probably not good for temperatures over 80°. But otherwise, could make an interesting sport scent for the morning time.
  2. Better than Drakkar Noir

It's better than Drakkar Noir for sure, but I don't love it
