  1. Very pretty, slightly green jasmine

by lls on Jun 10, 2016

Very pretty, slightly green jasmine, not indolic in the way that Lush Lust is, for instance. I need to try it again on a really hot night, to see if opens up into something more. I can't emphasize the prettiness enough, though, and if you love jasmine, you should definitely try it. I knocked off one star because it only lasts a couple of hours on me.
  2. THE BEST JASMINE

by Alicia on Jan 31, 2016

The jasmine gold standard. Enough said.
  3. Jasmine fest'

by Rose on Jan 11, 2016

A La Nuit reminds me a little of my very first perfume, when I was about 13, which was the Body Shop's Jasmine.

It's simple in that sense, but A La Nuit has much more depth. And yes, you could buy a very high quality jasmine absolute, but that would set you back about as much as the perfume!

What Lutens seems to have done is add a fruity note which (reminds me of pear-drops at first, a bit like acetone) which combined with Jasmine's natural banana/green quality makes this really project an aroma (as Jasmine flowers do in real life). The fruit and clove notes also cut through and lift jasmine's viscous heavy quality (it's viscous and heavy in absolute). The dry down seems to suddenly drop off after two hours into a mild benzoin/jasmine skin scent, though it lingers longer on clothes

The upshot is, I love jasmine, and will happily wear this on sunnier days, or perhaps layered with other perfumes.
  4. Pure jasmine

The jasmine gold standard. Enough said.
  5. Happy and Bright!

by Hope on Sep 12, 2015

My first experience with A la Nuit was anything but happy. I hated it! It was so bright and high pitched, I felt like I was being slapped in the face with too much lady. A second try and a forced sniff by my son was a resounding "yuck!"...I was starting to think I simply do not like jasmine as this is a true jasmine scent. I covered it in Bvlgari Black and was pleased. But third time's a charm. I have been looking for a little lift lately as the grayness of autumn skies have started to weigh heavily upon me, so I decided to give this another go. It did the trick! It is flowery and sweet, sharp and bright--all the stuff I typically eschew in perfume--but it taught me a lesson. Beauty depends on vantage point, and when needing a lift, those sweet girlie scents just might be the thing. Very feminine and layers well with Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Diptyque Philosykos.
  6. sugar and spice

by Zoe on Aug 8, 2015

While others say jasmine, I say Jonquils - it smells just like a florist full of jonquils in winter. That said, there is more depth than just this, although if you don't like sweet florals you are unlikely to enjoy this.
  7. Absolutely exotic and fascinating.

by Sharon on Apr 30, 2015

Right off the bat, it's a very powerful scent. A sweet and smoky burst of jasmine, accompanied by pleasant green notes. A La Nuit is a very believable, deep floral experience. It's like sniffing actual jasmine in a dewy, grassy field. But those green, grassy notes quickly dissipate and it develops into something much sultrier.

Whew, there's that smoke again! I can tell it's the cloves causing the back of my throat to tingle, because it's exactly the same sensation as being around second-hand smoke from clove cigarettes. (Which luckily reminds me of my late teens, hanging around in clovey smoke-filled concert venues). That smoky quality also dies down a little bit, and leaves just a lingering trail of smoke and spice, like an incense stick burning out. Ahh...
  8. Beautiful jasmine

by Emily on Dec 31, 2014

If you love jasmine than you simply have to try this fragrance. It is quite linear, not for someone who needs an olfactory novel. A simple, lovely jasmine.
